It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Connor, a highly esteemed and long-standing member and friend of our club.
Peter was without doubt one of the most enthusiastic sailors at the club, involved with Fireball's, NS14’s, Sharpies and Herons he was always eager to get out onto the water for a sail.
He was involved in many aspects of the running of our club, from being the Heron Class Representative, instigating the famous “Single Handed Heron Worlds” Regatta and the “Cryogenic Cup” Regatta. Peter was also our support boat co-ordinator, deck & shed officer and the key person negotiating our Council lease renewals, and most recently completing an extensive series of detailed reports for submission to the NSW State Government supporting our appeal in relation to the clubs NSW Crown Lands fee negotiations.
Thankyou to our support boat operators Buzz Skelton, Gary Firman and Russell Sullivan that were directly involved in assisting Peter.
Also thank you to NSW Maritime that were on scene very quickly, NSW Water Police and the ambulance officers assisting at Yowie Bay wharf.
Peter was a loved and highly respected member of PHOSC and will be greatly missed.
Our thoughts and condolences are with Peter’s family and friends during this time.
Peter's funeral will be held at 12:00pm, on Friday May 1st 2026 at “Olsens Farewells” 691 Old Princes Highway Sutherland NSW 2232, and the Wake / Celebration of his life will be held afterwards at the Port Hacking Open Sailing Club @ 226B Attunga Rd Yowie Bay 2232.
Fair winds and following seas, Peter.
